Grace Douglas has a secret crush on Jon, the boy next door. The problem is at thirty-six she's well past the age of secret crushes, her father insists Jon is her brother (by dint of his marriage to Jon's mother), and Jon is nothing more than brotherly when he spends the night in her hotel room.

Then a meddling fortuneteller convinces Grace's half-sister, Kitty she needs to re-stage her recent wedding – and get it right this time – or suffer the consequences. Dodging the bullets of a mysterious, if incompetent, stalker and fending off Heraldo, co-worker without a work ethic are a piece of wedding cake for Grace – compared to being Kitty's maid of honor.

Grace has to find a way out. Or be seen by the man she loves – wearing a bridesmaid gown.

I DoOver Confessions of a Recalcitrant Bridesmaid edition by Michele Riccio Literature Fiction eBooks

The main character in this book, Gracie, whines & complains about her awful family, especially her father & her ex-step mother but she does nothing to change it. She's 36 yrs old, single & been in love with her non-related step brother all her life but she's never told him until he tells her he's been in love with her too. She works for a woman who takes outrageous advantage of her. Gracie's boss is a thoughtless selfish woman who's business is failing becuz she hired a loser & she's sleeping with him. It's really difficult 2 enjoy a comedy when it invokes anger at the thoughtless injustices heaved onto Gracie. I really wanted 2 root 4 Gracie but her inablity to stand up for herself just made it impossible. I guess maybe the writer didn't know how to include all the funny situations without making Garcie a wuss. The ending leaves us hanging & there are quite a few missing word mistakes throughout the book.

good
Michele's style is obvious in her work! One of my fav authors!
Good read over all. Drug a bit in some spots. But loved the crazy accidents and the damn dress issues.
Updated review

I look forward Ms. Riccio's next book - which will hopefully further chronicle this family who put the FUN in Dys-FUN-ction!

This author should publish warning label on the inside cover"DO NOT READ BOOK IN PUBLIC, .... you will be labeled a lunatic for laughing out loud all by yourself!!!

(I promise to write a candid review after reading a book written by an extremely brave woman).

The fear of the unknown while undertaking this journey has to have been daunting, for there is nothing more personal than one's own words.

Mustering up the courage to embark upon an avocation such as writing, completing, and publishing a first novel must be celebrated!

Imagine first wrestling with the general concept, realizing you have something worth sharing. The grueling process of cultivating, nurturing, and developing each word so meticulously. and following the project to the end must be a labor of love.
As a first time novelist, Ms. Riccio has placed self-doubt, fear of rejection, on the back burner and courageously pushed the fruits of her labor into the universe for all to see. Opening oneself up to the potential unfavorable reviews is not for the faint of heart.

I salute you for having the gumption to find your voice, but also for making it heard!

This was a really fun story. It was different and I enjoyed that aspect of this book. However, it was badly edited with several typos and words spelled correctly that were obviously not the words the author meant.
This book was made much more enjoyable because I am familiar with the author's personality and real-life sense of humor. Had it been written by someone else I'm not so sure it would have been as funny. It was nice and light and I liked that I was able to pick up right where I left off in the story after not reading it for a while and not be completely lost. I was a little disappointed with the ending because it seemed unfinished, like there could have been a little more put in about what happened after the wedding, what happened between Grace and her father, how the family dealt with everything, what happened with Joanna. The ending left me with a few unanswered questions and maybe I was looking for some kind of closure. Other than that (and some typos and grammatical errors here and there that took a little bit away from the flow of things), an overall good read. Kudos!
It has been said that family is the one room you can't get out of. Self serving decisions by some family members, such patriarchs and matriarchs, can make life a living hell for other members. But, due to notions of loyalty, community expectations, and personal honor, such aggrieved members often can't leave. They're stuck.

'I do-Over' illustrates that point in being both funny and somewhat dark.

In it, Gracie Douglass, the view point character, is forced to subject her well abused credit card, as well as her strained patience, to a do over of her spoiled, younger half sister's wedding.

She has nothing but contempt for her step mother, her half sister, and especially their taste in wedding clothes, which comes out in in dozens hilarious asides.

She is also beset by a secret yearning for her step brother, Jon, who, just when the 'negotiations' over brides maid's dresses becomes tense, reveals he has similar yearnings for her.

Such co-yearnings, if consummated, are bound to ignite a family conflagration that would make world war three look tame in comparison.

Meanwhile, back at work, she has to deal with an aristocratic, unappreciative boss, and a lazy, incompetent, and corrupt co-worker, whom her boss believes can do no wrong.

Can Gracie hold it all together? Can she fulfill her family 'obligation' to give her half sister a repeat of her one special day? Can she keep her yearnings under wraps? Can she placate her boss and out maneuver her co-worker?

I laughed much of the way to finding out.
